Overview

The Department of Trade is responsible for promotion of orderly growth of trade in the county through provision of business development services and trade regulation. It is also responsible for promotion of investment and for implementing the national trade policy at county level and advocacy for and provision of consumer protection and ensuring that business exhibit fair trade practices.

    • The implementation of the County and National Trade Policy.
    • Promotion of investments
    • Trade licensing and regulation
    • Provision of business development services
    • Co-ordination and development of micro, small and medium business engaged in trade.
    • Development of wholesale and retail trade
    • Management of credit scheme for micro and small business
    • Collection of business information and management of county business information centers.
    • Promotion of export business and domesticating bilateral, regional and international agreements
    • Advocacy for the provision of market infrastructure
    • Promotion and facilitation of the intra, inter country trade and cross-border trade
    • Management of county physical market s and regulation of hawking activities
    • Promotion of consumer protection fair trade practices
    • Promotion of use of E-commerce
    • Conduct trade fairs/exhibitions and facilitating trade mission in the county

    • Undertaking business training and counseling
    • Providing business consultancy services

    Licensing and Markets section

    • Business regulation and licensing
    • Advocacy for provision of market infrastructure
    • Management of county markets and hawking activities

    Industrial support sector

    • Undertaking the process of graduating small scale industries into large industrial ventures
    • Provide support to value-addition industrial-based enterprises
    • Advocate for allocation of Industrial Parks for investments
    • Specialized industrial skills

    Biashara centre section

    • The County Biashara Centres are a key tool for implementing the Economic Empowerment Program, both at the macro level through advocacy and dissemination of information, and at the micro level through support for SMEs, economically excluded and vulnerable groups, and through the implementation of the African Agribusiness Supplier Development Programme (AASDP) initiative.

    Weights and measures section         

    • We purchased a vehicle for field metrological services,
    • Recruited one weights and measures officer.
    • We did a verification exercise of 94 fuel pumps and 900 weighing scales across the county.
