GOVERNOR JOSPHAT KOLI NANOK E.G.H
Josphat Koli Nanok is the first Governor of Turkana, serving his second term following his reelection in the General Election of August 2007.
Nanok was first elected Governor in 2013 and has led the economic transformation of Turkana County by laying a strong infrastructural foundation in early childhood education, basic healthcare, trade, transport and food security sectors.
Before serving as Governor, Nanok was first elected as Member of Parliament for Turkana South constituency in 2007, under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party. The constituency covered the current Turkana South and Turkana East constituencies.
After the formation of the Government of National Accord with President Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga as Prime Minister, Nanok was appointed Assistant Minister for Forestry and Wildlife where he served until 2013.
Nanok served as the 3rd Chair of the Council of Governors (COG) for two terms, from May 2017 to January 2019, where he fostered good relationships between COG and the National Government.
EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION
Born in 1969, the Governor holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and History from the University of Nairobi and Master of Business Administration from Strathmore University. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Business Administration at the Paris School of Business.
PROFESSIONAL CAREER
Prior to joining Politics, Governor Nanok held senior positions including top consultancies with the UN – WFP in Kenya, South Sudan and Eritrea after working with Oxfam GB in Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan in similar capacities.
