Governor Josphat Nanok today gave his fifth State of County Address and in it presented progress made in the implementation of the five development priorities for his second term.
The Governor said that despite extreme delays in disbursement of development funds by the national treasury, progress had been made in implementation of the priorities which are: Water Development, Mineral exploitation and Natural Resource Management; Food Security; Partnerships and Investment; Resource Mobilization and Utilization; and Peace Building and Cross-border engagement.
He attributed this progress to the County Government’s effort to strengthen the pillars of Resource mobilization, partnerships and investments.
Governor Nanok commended Speaker Erastus Lokaale for his bipartisan leadership of the County Assembly that had enabled the second House pass key legislation including the Turkana County Office of County Attorney Bill and the Turkana Community Health Services Bill; and for fostering a positive relationship with the County Executive.
He assured the house of the Executive’s support of the Assembly’s oversight role.
In his address, the Governor insisted on the need for Turkana leaders and residents to pull together especially in the debate over management of oil revenue and in ensuring residents benefit from natural resources found in the County.
He promised that the County Government will continue to invest in development that will ‘attract investments through strategic private sector players to diversify the County’s economy and increase visibility of Turkana on the development map of Kenya’.
Present to witness the address was the Deputy Governor Peter Lotethiro, Senator Malachy Ekal and Members of the County Executive led by County Secretary Peter Eripete.
