FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 19/07/2015
CONDEMNATION OF THE ATTACKS IN LOKICHOGGIO, TURKANA
I want to condemn in the strongest terms possible the killing of the Turkana West OCS, Chief Inspector Dominic Ng’ang’a and one of National Police Reservist in Lokichoggio in an attack by suspected Toposa bandits from South Sudan.
At the same time I wish to send my heart- felt condolences to the residents of Lokichoggio and especially to the families of the slain men and those injured in the attack.
This is quite unfortunate especially when we have had quite a number of peace meetings with our neighbours from Sudan and where agreements and resolutions have been reached.
I want therefore to urge the people of Turkana to remain calm as both the County and National government seek for ways to strengthen and support security measures in the conflict prone corridors both internally and along the international borders.
The 20 suspected Toposa are said to have attacked Turkana herdsmen and drove away 400 heads of cattle.
This morning, I was in touch with a senior official of Eastern Equatoria State of South Sudan who informed me that they (South Sudan) have mounted an operation to track down and arrest perpetrators of this heinous act of killings and livestock theft.
Both the county officers and the senior national security personnel are on the ground since the time of the incident yesterday .
